Mr. Kaspar og hans mærkelige familie / Mr. Kaspar and his Goofy Family
‘Mr. Kaspar and his Goofy Family’ is an example of traditional Czech puppet theatre, which has no desire to educate an audience, but only to make you enjoy and laugh – with a minimum of dialogue and a maximum
of action.
The characters are Mr. Kaspar, Mrs. Kalupinka, The Grim Reaper, The Baby, The Dog, plus many props and folk music instruments.
Mr. Kaspar and Mrs. Kalupinka have a baby, and Mr. Kaspar needs to be the babysitter. That is not an easy task when a hungry and ferocious Grim Reaper is wandering around the house.
This kind of theatre is often called ‘slapstick’, always picturing normal situations which often develop in grotesque directions. Sometime the main character Mr. Kaspar defends himself, for example with a stick to whip the devil, the police and sometimes even a bad guy. But everybody knows this is all in fun.
